# Kalona.chat Content & Moderation Policy

This policy explains how Kalona.chat approaches moderation and user-submitted content.

## 1. Purpose

Kalona.chat is designed to provide an open community discussion space while maintaining reasonable standards for safety, legality, privacy, and respectful participation.

## 2. User Responsibility

Users are responsible for the content they submit.

Kalona.chat does not guarantee the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of User Content.

Information posted by users should not automatically be treated as verified information.

## 3. Content That May Be Removed

Kalona.chat may remove or restrict content involving:

* Threats.
* Harassment.
* Doxxing.
* Spam.
* Fraud.
* Malware.
* Impersonation.
* Illegal activity.
* Non-consensual intimate material.
* Child sexual exploitation material.
* Knowingly deceptive content.
* Copyright infringement.
* Fake reviews.
* Personal information posted for harassment.
* Content that creates significant safety risks.
* Other content violating the Terms or Community Guidelines.

## 4. False Information

Kalona.chat is not intended to be an authority for determining the truth of every statement made by users.

We may remove content when there is a clear reason to believe that it violates the rules, creates a significant risk of harm, or is being used deceptively.

Disagreement with a statement does not automatically make the statement grounds for removal.

## 5. Complaints About Businesses

Businesses may contact Kalona.chat regarding content concerning their business.

Where appropriate, Kalona.chat may:

# Kalona.chat Community Guidelines

Kalona.chat exists to give people in and around Kalona a place to talk, ask questions, share information, support local businesses, discuss community issues, and connect with neighbors.

We're aiming for a community where people can disagree without turning every disagreement into a personal fight.

## 1. Be Respectful

Treat other members with basic respect.

Disagreement is allowed. Personal attacks, harassment, threats, and bullying are not.

## 2. Keep Discussions Constructive

You're welcome to:

* Disagree.
* Ask difficult questions.
* Criticize policies.
* Discuss local government.
* Discuss businesses.
* Share personal experiences.
* Debate community issues.

Focus criticism on ideas, decisions, policies, services, or experiences rather than attacking people personally.

## 3. Don't Post Threats

Threats of violence or harm are prohibited.

Threatening another member, business, public official, employee, or any other person may result in immediate removal and account action.

Serious threats may also be reported to appropriate authorities.

## 4. Don't Dox People

Do not post private personal information such as:

* Home addresses.
* Personal phone numbers.
* Personal email addresses.
* Financial information.
* Passwords.
* Private photographs.
* Government identification numbers.
* Information intended to help others locate or harass someone.

Publicly available business contact information may be permitted when used appropriately.

## 5. Local Business Discussions

Local-business discussions are welcome.

However:

**Do not knowingly post false accusations.**

When discussing a business, consider clearly identifying statements as your personal experience or opinion.

For example:

> "I had a bad experience with this contractor."

is different from presenting an unverified allegation of criminal conduct as established fact.

## 6. Reviews Must Be Genuine

Do not:

* Create fake reviews.
* Buy reviews.
* Sell reviews.
* Coordinate fake reviews.
* Create fake accounts to manipulate ratings.
* Review a business you have never dealt with while pretending you did.
* Intentionally misrepresent your experience.

Businesses should not use Kalona.chat to manufacture positive or negative public opinion.

Federal rules address deceptive review practices, including fake reviews and certain compensated reviews.

## 7. Political and Government Discussions

Political and civic discussion is allowed.

Users may discuss:

* City government.
* County government.
* Elections.
* Candidates.
* Taxes.
* Local ordinances.
* Public projects.
* Community issues.

Political disagreements must still follow the general rules against threats, harassment, doxxing, and knowingly false information.

## 8. Buy, Sell, and Trade

When buying or selling:

* Be honest about what you're offering.
* Don't knowingly misrepresent an item.
* Don't use the forum to conduct scams.

## 11. Moderation

Moderators may:

* Remove posts.

* Temporarily suspend users.
* Permanently ban users.

Moderation decisions may consider context, history, severity, and community safety.

## 12. Report Problems

If you see content that violates these guidelines, use the site's reporting function or contact the administrators.

Please don't engage in a public fight with the person you're reporting.

The phpBB software only facilitates internet-based discussions; phpBB Limited is not responsible for the content or conduct permitted or disallowed on this site. You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, libellous, hateful, threatening, sexually oriented, or otherwise unlawful material, whether under the laws of your country, the country in which “Kalona Chat” is hosted, or under international law. Doing so may result in your immediate and permanent ban, with notification of your Internet Service Provider if deemed necessary by us. The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions.

You agree that “Kalona Chat” reserves the right to remove, edit, move, or close any topic at any time, at our sole discretion. As a user, you agree that any information you enter may be stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent, neither “Kalona Chat” nor phpBB shall be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to data being compromised.

This policy explains in detail how “Kalona Chat” and its affiliated companies (hereinafter “we”, “us”, “our”, “Kalona Chat”, “https://kalona.chat/b”) and phpBB (hereinafter “they”, “them”, “their”, “phpBB software”, “www.phpbb.com”, “phpBB Limited”, “phpBB Teams”) use information collected during your use of this site (hereinafter “your information”).

Your information is collected in two ways. When you browse “Kalona Chat”, the phpBB software will create several cookies. Cookies are small text files stored in your web browser’s temporary files. Your account will contain at a minimum: a unique username (hereinafter “your username”), a personal password used to log in (hereinafter “your password”), a valid email address (hereinafter “your email”). Your account information on “Kalona Chat” is protected by the data-protection laws applicable in the country that hosts us. Any information beyond your username, password, and email address that is requested during registration may be mandatory or optional, at the discretion of “Kalona Chat”. In all cases, you may choose what information in your account is publicly displayed. You may also opt in or out of automatically generated emails from the phpBB software.

Your password is stored as a one-way hash to ensure security. However, we recommend that you do not reuse the same password across multiple websites. Your password is the key to your account on “Kalona Chat”, so please keep it secure. Under no circumstances will anyone affiliated with “Kalona Chat”, phpBB, or any third party legitimately ask for your password. If you forget your password, you can use the “I forgot my password” feature provided by the phpBB software. This process requires you to submit your username and email address, after which the phpBB software will generate a new password for you to regain access to your account.
